A new Chargé d'Affaires has taken office at the U.S. Mission in Morocco, the U.S. Embassy in Rabat announced Friday. «Deputy Chief of Mission Benjamin Ziff arrived in Morocco on August 28, 2025, and assumed the role of Chargé d'Affaires to the U.S. Mission in Morocco», the embassy posted on X. On Facebook, the embassy introduced him in another post: «Meet the incoming Chargé d'Affaires to the U.S. Mission in Morocco, Benjamin Ziff. Help us welcome him by suggesting where in Morocco he should visit first!» Ziff succeeds Aimee Cutrona, who had been serving in the role since January. His appointment coincides with the expected arrival of the new U.S. ambassador, Richard Duke Buchan III. Buchan's nomination was approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on July 29, following President Donald Trump's decision to appoint him earlier in March. His confirmation process is not yet complete. Ziff, a career diplomat who joined the U.S. Information Agency in 1988, has held key posts in Australia, Israel, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Italy, and Iraq. He later served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for European public diplomacy and took on senior roles in Colombia and Spain. He also served as Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy in Cub between 2022 and 2024. A native of California, he is a recipient of the Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy and speaks Spanish, Hebrew, and Italian.
