The Dr. Leila Mezian Foundation has inaugurated the Espace Amazigh at the heart of Granada's UNESCO-listed Alhambra, marking a historic cultural bridge between Morocco and Spain, reads a press release by the foundation on Monday. The ceremony, held on September 4 at Carmen de los Porcel, brought together Moroccan and Spanish dignitaries, including Othman Benjelloun, Dounia Benjelloun, André Azoulay, and Andalusia's culture minister Patricia del Pozo Fernández. The space, a tribute to the late Dr. Leila Mezian Benjelloun, reflects her lifelong dedication to Amazigh heritage and intercultural dialogue. Covering 250 m², with 200 m² dedicated to a permanent collection, it will display over 50 years of Amazigh artifacts she gathered, highlighting historic ties between Andalusia and the Amazigh world. Dounia Benjelloun described the inauguration as the realization of her mother's dream to showcase Amazigh culture in a site symbolic of civilizations in dialogue. Distinguished with the Wissam Alaouite in 2016, Dr. Mezian's legacy now lives on in one of the world's most visited monuments. Through this partnership with the Patronato de la Alhambra, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to celebrating diversity and strengthening cultural ties across the Mediterranean.
