Moroccan player Oualid El Hajjam has signed a two-year deal with Girondins de Bordeaux, committing to the club until 2027, the French National 2 side announced on Wednesday. «We are very pleased to announce the signing of Oualid El Hajjam. The Moroccan international will strengthen Bordeaux's defense and bring his wealth of experience to the Marine and White», the club posted on its official X account. Able to play both as a central defender and right-back, the 34-year-old has been capped three times for Morocco, in 2018 and 2019 under coaches Hervé Renard and Vahid Halilhodzic. He was brought in to cover for Malian defender Nadjib Cissé, sidelined long-term after surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee sustained during pre-season, according to French media. Over his career, El Hajjam has made 70 appearances in Ligue 1 and more than 110 in Ligue 2 with Amiens, Troyes, and Le Havre — the latter having recently terminated his contract, which had been due to run until 2026. Once a powerhouse of French football, Bordeaux has in recent years endured a severe financial crisis that saw the club plummet to the National 2, France's fourth division. Its trophy cabinet, however, remains impressive, with six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups, three League Cups, and two Champions Trophies.
