Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch praised the «unprecedented cohesion» within his governing coalition this evening, highlighting the unity of its three parties, the RNI, PAM, and Istiqlal. Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, September 10, with Al Aoula and 2M, the head of government downplayed the occasional disagreements that emerge. «It's normal», he stressed. Akhannouch attributed what he called «friendly fire» from his allies to contradictions between «partisan and governmental agendas». Such criticism, he argued, reflects the freedom of expression of party activists. «It's normal», he repeated. Earlier this year, tensions had surfaced within the coalition. On March 12, the PAM, a key member of the majority, urged the government to scrap customs and tax exemptions intended to lower meat prices, claiming the measures had failed to deliver results. Similarly, on January 11 in Casablanca, Istiqlal's secretary-general, Nizar Baraka, criticized the poor performance of the Akhannouch government. With just one year to go before the 2026 legislative elections, this «friendly fire» within the majority is likely to intensify.
