According to the High Commission for Planning (HCP), Morocco's manufacturing production index, excluding oil refining, rose by 7% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This strong growth was driven by significant gains across several key sectors. The chemical industry grew by 9.3%, while output of non-metallic mineral products jumped 10.8%. The food industry increased by 9%, and tobacco manufacturing recorded an exceptional 19.1% rise. The automotive industry advanced by 5.6%, electrical equipment manufacturing surged 16.3%, and metallurgy climbed 17.2%, according to an HCP note on the industrial, energy, and mining production index (IPIEM). Not all industries shared in the momentum. The clothing sector contracted by 11.6%. Declines were also seen in the production of other transport equipment (-14.5%), leather and footwear (-9.1%), and rubber and plastic products (-3.2%). Meanwhile, the extractive industries production index rose 16.8%, driven by a 17.4% increase in various extractive products and a slight 0.1% rise in metallic minerals. The index for electrical energy production also posted a solid gain, up 9.4%.
