The Court of First Instance in Ain Sebaa, Casablanca, on Tuesday, September 16, sentenced activist and blogger Saida El Alami to three years in prison and fined her 20,000 dirhams. El Alami was prosecuted on charges of «insulting an organized body», «insulting the judiciary», and «spreading and broadcasting false allegations». She was arrested in early July, just a year after benefiting from a royal pardon granted on Throne Day, which included several journalists and bloggers prosecuted in freedom of expression cases. In September 2022, the Casablanca Court of Appeal upheld a three-year prison sentence against her, following an earlier ruling by the Court of First Instance that had sentenced her to two years.
