Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, will travel to China on September 19 and 20 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. The visit, announced Wednesday by a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the Xinhua news agency, comes at a time when bilateral ties are strengthening, particularly in the economic sphere. It also takes place against the backdrop of an upcoming UN Security Council session on the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), where China holds a permanent seat. By October 2025, the UN Secretary-General is expected to present a report on developments in the region since the adoption of Resolution 2756 on October 31, 2024, which extended MINURSO's mandate for one year. The head of MINURSO, Alexander Ivanko, along with the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, will brief the Security Council in a closed session, which is expected to conclude with the adoption of a new resolution.
