Morocco's Administration of National Defense, India's Ministry of Defence, and TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced Tuesday the inauguration of the the TATA Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM) plant in Berrechid. The factory, covered by the investment agreement signed by the parties in September 2024, is the fruit of a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Morocco's industrial capacity in the defense sector, the Administration of National Defense said in a statement. Located in the Berrechid industrial zone, the TASM plant is today launching production of WhAP 8x8 armored combat vehicles, destined for the Royal Armed Forces and for high-potential international markets. At start-up, the TASM plant will incorporate 35% locally sourced components, a rate that will progressively reach 50% thanks to sustained investment in training and the integration of national suppliers. The Berrechid plant is expected to create 90 direct and 250 indirect jobs, with a ramp-up plan foreseeing a strong increase in production in the medium term. It will also offer Moroccan talent opportunities for training, career development, and technological expertise related to the production and maintenance of advanced defense vehicles. Equipped with modern infrastructure, the TASM facility will serve as a regional platform for exporting WhAP 8x8 vehicles, particularly to Africa. As a recognized global leader in defense, TASL brings to the project its experience, cutting-edge technologies, and international network, while fostering skills transfer and local innovation, the statement concluded. This flagship project seeks not only to gradually equip the country with industrial and technological autonomy in defense, but also to act as a catalyst for the development of a national defense industry and the creation of skilled jobs.
