The Spanish National Court has revoked the Spanish citizenship of a Moroccan man that was granted in 2022, following a legal review finding he did not meet all statutory requirements. The man has lived for more than twenty years in Villamanta (Madrid province) with his Spanish wife and children, maintaining lawful residence and no violations while taking part in local community life. The review established that, although he filed his application in 2016 with proof of registration for the CCSE (Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge) exam, he failed to provide the required integration certificates and did not pass the DELE Spanish-language test, mandatory for applicants from non-Spanish-speaking countries. In November 2023, the Ministry of Justice opened proceedings to annul the grant of nationality and pursued administrative and judicial steps, culminating in an appeal before the National Court. The court has now annulled his citizenship, holding that his level of integration was not legally proven, and ordered him to pay up to €1,500 in legal costs, with notification to the civil registry. He may still recover nationality either by appealing to the Supreme Court or by submitting a new application after passing the required exams.
