On the evening of Tuesday, May 13, an investigative judge at the Marrakech Court of Appeal ordered the detention of a university professor, following allegations of involvement in a university degree trafficking network. According to local newspaper Kech 24, the decision came after several months of in-depth investigations led by the National Brigade of Judicial Police in Marrakech. The investigation uncovered suspicions of degree sales and admissions to master's programs in exchange for bribes and financial payments. The investigative judge also ordered the prosecution of the professor's wife, a practicing lawyer, as part of the same case. Additionally, the head of the court registry at the Safi Primary Court was charged but released under judicial supervision, along with his son, a trainee lawyer, and several other trainee lawyers. It is alleged that these individuals obtained university degrees without sitting for the required exams, including the eligibility test for practicing law, by paying significant sums of money.
