The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, highlighted on Tuesday in New York the major development projects underway in Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. Speaking on behalf of Morocco at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Akhannouch stressed the country's significant progress in energy transition, with a strong focus on renewable energies and enhanced capacity to address climate change. He underscored Morocco's conviction that collective action is essential to overcome these global challenges, which threaten international peace and security, and to work together toward shared goals for the benefit of humanity. On the issue of water stress, driven by climate change, drought, and population growth, Akhannouch explained that Morocco, in line with royal directives, has adopted innovative policies to mitigate the problem. Among these measures are water transfers between hydrographic basins, seawater desalination, wastewater reuse, the promotion of efficient agricultural irrigation systems, and the construction of dams. Turning to the technological revolution marked by the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, the Head of Government highlighted the Morocco Digital 2030 strategy, designed to accelerate the country's digital transformation. He noted that while AI presents vast opportunities in fields such as health, education, and agriculture, it also demands continuous adaptation to the rapid changes it brings. For Morocco, he concluded, this technology must not become a source of exclusion or division, but rather a lever for shared progress.
