Last night in New York, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita engaged in discussions with Republican Senator Joe Wilson. Wilson is notably the co-author, alongside Democratic Representative Jimmy Panetta, of a legislative proposal seeking to designate the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization in the United States. In the aftermath of their meeting, Senator Wilson underscored the enduring bond between the two nations, stating that Americans «appreciate that the Kingdom of Morocco was the first nation to recognize the independence of the United States of America. Our two countries have been collaborating for two and a half centuries now, and we will continue to do so». Wilson further emphasized «the geostrategic importance of Morocco, a historical ally of the United States». He reiterated America's steadfast support for Morocco's sovereignty, stability, and prosperity, as highlighted in a statement from Moroccan diplomatic sources. The meeting between Joe Wilson and Nasser Bourita occurred on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. It is worth noting that the Moroccan Foreign Minister had previously met with the Republican senator on April 9 in Washington.
