The Criminal Appeals Chamber at the Court of Appeal in Errachidia handed down a life sentence last Tuesday to the defendant convicted of murdering a teacher in Erfoud. The court found him guilty of premeditated murder. This ruling follows a previous decision by the initial chamber, which sentenced him on July 16 to 30 years in prison and imposed a fine of 300,000 dirhams to be paid to the victim's family. The sentence was increased upon appeal. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, March 27, when the accused, a young man in his early twenties and a former student at the same institute, attacked the teacher in public. He used a sharp weapon, a hatchet, to deliver fatal blows to her head and neck. Security forces swiftly apprehended the suspect and launched an investigation into the case. The victim was immediately taken to Moulay Ali Cherif Regional Hospital in Errachidia, and later transferred to Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, where she succumbed to her injuries on April 13, 2025, after spending more than two weeks in intensive care.
