The city of Tiflet is grappling with shock and outrage following the horrific abduction and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, held captive for five days before being found in a traumatized state. As the suspect faces legal proceedings, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights vows to support the victim and pursue justice, calling for a comprehensive investigation into the crime's chilling circumstances. Last week, the city of Tiflet was rocked by a chilling crime involving the abduction and sexual assault of a minor, who was held captive for five harrowing days before being discovered in a deeply traumatized state. After the victim identified the perpetrator, authorities succeeded in apprehending the suspect last Friday, as reported by the Moroccan Association for Human Rights in Tiflet to Yabiladi. Ghassane Iben Ouazi, the general secretary of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights in Tiflet, stated that the suspect was brought before the public prosecutor at the Rabat Court of Appeal on Saturday morning. The court ordered his detention and decided to prosecute him while in custody, with the investigating judge scheduled to hear him on December 15. Details of the Brutal Assault The incident traces back to Saturday, November 1, when the victim left her home to run errands. After she failed to return within an hour, her family began a frantic search, which ended on the night of Wednesday, November 5, when she was found in a dire condition. According to the victim's account, shared by the association, a stranger on a motorcycle approached the 16-year-old, threatening her with a knife and forcibly taking her to a remote village outside the city. There, he drugged her, causing her to lose consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, she discovered she had been undressed and raped. The assailant also beat her, leaving visible bruises on her face, photos of which were seen by Yabiladi. The victim recounted that during her captivity, the suspect would leave and securely lock the door. On the fifth day, he transported her to a location about a kilometer from Tiflet, abandoning her to walk the rest of the way home. Her family, who are in a vulnerable social situation, found her at night in a state of distress. The ordeal triggered a severe psychological crisis in the minor, leading to multiple suicide attempts before she was hospitalized for necessary medical evaluations, according to the family. The Moroccan Association for Human Rights has declared its intention to act as a civil party in the case, pledging to closely monitor the proceedings and support the victim throughout the judicial process «to achieve justice». In a statement to Yabiladi, the human rights advocate condemned «this heinous crime in the strongest terms», emphasizing that sexual assaults pose a «grave threat to societal security and undermine the rule of law». The association has called for a thorough and swift judicial investigation into all aspects of the crime, urging accountability for anyone who contributed to, concealed, or neglected their legal duties, while ensuring the victim receives medical and psychological care and compensation in line with international human rights standards.
