On Thursday, Bahija Simou, the director of the Royal Archives of Morocco, received a distinguished honor at the League of Arab States' headquarters for her significant contributions to the preservation of documentary heritage and archives. This recognition was part of the annual Arab Document Day celebration. The event, themed «The League of Arab States: Eighty Years of Arab Common Action», was organized by the General Secretariat in collaboration with the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ARBICA). It gathered prominent figures from the Arab world who specialize in documentation and archiving. Latifa Mouftakir, the director of the Archives of Morocco, accepted the honorary award on behalf of Bahija Simou. She highlighted that the institution's involvement aimed to underscore the crucial role of documents in safeguarding national memory, understanding historical contexts, and planning for the future. In a statement to MAP, Mouftakir emphasized the importance of enhancing the rich documentary collections held by the institution. She noted that their participation also coincides with the 80th anniversary of the League of Arab States. Mouftakir further mentioned that during the exhibition organized for this occasion, the Archives of Morocco showcased documentary pieces that reflect Morocco's ongoing commitment to the League's mission and its efforts in promoting Arab unity and collaboration. Alongside the event, a documentary exhibition titled «The League of Arab States as Seen by Arab Archival and Documentation Institutions» was launched. This exhibition featured reproductions of documents from ARBICA member archives, illustrating the League's history and pivotal role in the region.
