The Sahrawi Movement for Peace (MSP), a breakaway faction from the Polisario Front, is keen to take part in the upcoming United Nations-led negotiations on Western Sahara. In a letter to Staffan de Mistura, the MSP's first secretary firmly requests inclusion, stressing the importance of «democratizing the political process to move towards a sustainable solution» to the longstanding conflict. The MSP's letter highlights to the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara «the challenges and obstacles that must be addressed» and calls for «expanding the participation of Sahrawi stakeholders». This, they argue, is essential for the success of de Mistura's mission and for achieving a lasting resolution. It's crucial to remember that Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, clearly outlines the parties required for future negotiations: Morocco, the Polisario Front, Algeria, and Mauritania. In September, an MSP delegation attended the sessions of the UN's Fourth Committee, where they advocated for a "third way" to resolve the Western Sahara conflict.
