The Spanish Civil Guard and the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie have teamed up for joint patrols by land, sea, and air along the Poniente coast in Almería. This collaborative operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb irregular migration and human trafficking. Over the course of four days, the patrols meticulously swept key areas where boats commonly make landfall, aiming to uncover the tactics employed by human smuggling networks. The coastline was under vigilant surveillance, anticipating any attempts by migrants to cross. In a show of cross-border cooperation, members of the Royal Gendarmerie joined an aerial reconnaissance mission aboard a Civil Guard helicopter, scouting potential landing sites for incoming boats. Joint inspections were also carried out on vehicles arriving from Morocco at the Port of Almería, with a sharp focus on trucks as potential hiding spots for stowaways. In the broader context of maritime security collaboration, the Moroccan and Spanish navies engaged in joint exercises in the Strait of Gibraltar and the Alboran Sea, as part of NATO's SeaGuardian operation. These exercises aim to bolster regional maritime security against a range of threats, including those of a terrorist nature.
