On Wednesday morning, Moroccan authorities tightened security measures along the border with Ceuta following calls circulating on social media urging a mass crossing into the Spanish enclave, reminiscent of the events of September 2024. Units from the police, Royal Gendarmerie, and auxiliary forces were deployed at several border points, with increased surveillance on roads leading to the crossing, particularly in the Beliones and Benzú areas, to prevent any attempted land infiltrations. Meanwhile, Royal Navy units were mobilized to patrol the coastline and intercept any attempts to reach Ceuta by sea. On the Spanish side, the Civil Guard also reinforced its presence in anticipation of possible mass crossings. Authorities estimate that between 800 and 900 migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa are currently gathered in nearby forests, waiting for an opportunity to cross, alongside several Moroccan minors hiding in the same area. The heightened alert follows an incident two days earlier, when around 30 Moroccan minors managed to enter Ceuta by swimming, taking advantage of rough sea conditions to reach the shore.
