The public company for the internationalization of Canary Islands companies, PROEXCA, plans to send a trade delegation in collaboration with the Canary Islands Ports Federation, Fedeport, to the city of Dakhla from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. This visit is organized under the theme "Dakhla Ports 2025." PROEXCA aims to support Canary Islands companies and encourage them to register for this mission, which focuses on key areas including port development, logistical links, and maritime services in the region. The Spanish company invited Canary Islands companies in related fields to "take advantage of the opportunities of the future Atlantic Port of Dakhla," as it sees development for "regional integration and a major hub for port development creates opportunities." This anticipated visit has sparked anger from the Polisario Front and its affiliated organizations. The organization "Western Sahara Resource Watch" stated that this visit is "controversial from both political and legal standpoints," adding that the Moroccan government has been working to "develop the infrastructure of Dakhla's ports as part of its strategic plan to strengthen its control over Western Sahara." The organization considered that investing in the region represents "an implicit support for Moroccan claims in the territory." It added that organizing a "business delegation to the region according to Moroccan conditions, without any reference to the Sahrawi people or the conflict, involves the risk of normalizing an illegal situation and integrating Canary Islands institutions into the political structure of the occupation," according to the separatist organization's statement.
