As part of its preparations for upcoming continental and international events, the city of Tangier is set to install a massive flag on its waterfront, with an expected size of 30 to 50 square meters. The goal is for it to be visible from the Spanish coast, particularly Tarifa, when weather conditions allow, given that only about 14 kilometers separate the two shores at their closest point, according to local sources. To realize this plan, a 30-meter-high metal mast, the equivalent of a nine-story building, will be erected and fitted with lighting systems so the flag can be seen at night across the Bay of Tangier. The Tangier municipality has allocated 1.3 million dirhams for the project, covering civil engineering works, installation equipment, and special treatment to ensure the pole is highly resistant to humidity and corrosion due to its proximity to the sea. The structure will rest on a reinforced concrete base designed to withstand the strong winds characteristic of the Strait of Gibraltar, where gusts can exceed 60 km/h during certain seasons.
