The Moroccan actor and director, Wahid Chakib, has been honored with the title of Knight of the French Order of Arts and Letters. This accolade recognizes his significant contributions to spreading knowledge and cultural values. «This distinction is a great honor for me as a Moroccan citizen dedicated to serving Moroccan youth and those from migrant backgrounds in the Bordeaux region,» he told MAP, ahead of the upcoming award ceremony. For nearly three decades, this social activist, originally from Kenitra and now based in Bordeaux, has been a prominent figure in promoting coexistence, fostering intergenerational dialogue, and encouraging artistic expression among young people. He remarked that this award serves as «a powerful incentive for me to continue my commitment to embedding the values of theater, culture, education, coexistence, and transmission both in France and globally». In 1993, Wahid Chakib graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Cultural Animation (ISADAC) and was awarded a scholarship to further his studies in Bordeaux, where he earned a doctorate in children's theater. Since then, he has been actively involved with a cultural and artistic association focused on integrating youth from migrant backgrounds, especially in schools across France and beyond. Wahid Chakib also works closely with Moroccan universities and schools, addressing topics such as theater education, theatrical training, and gender equality. As the director of the Company of Uncertainty at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), he has achieved significant acclaim, particularly for his musical comedy «Love Without Borders», which has garnered multiple awards. In addition, he has organized improvisation contests centered on the theme of coexistence as part of the Festival of High School Students and Apprentices, an event he both coordinates and hosts.
