The Rabat Declaration on child-focused disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) has been made available in all six official languages of the United Nations, marking its status as a joint document of both the UN Security Council and the General Assembly. This crucial document has been registered under item 67 of the General Assembly agenda titled «Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Child» and is also included among the official documents of the United Nations Security Council. Adopted during the African Ministerial Conference on the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) of child soldiers, the Rabat Declaration was unveiled on November 20, 2025, under the theme «Building Sustainable Pathways for Children Affected by Armed Conflicts». This high-profile event, which coincided with World Children's Day, facilitated a united commitment towards safeguarding children's rights, preventing their recruitment and use by armed groups, and promoting their sustainable reintegration into local communities. As an African complement to existing international legal and institutional frameworks on child protection, the Rabat Declaration bolsters the United Nations' ongoing efforts, as reflected in successive resolutions on children and armed conflicts. The Declaration underscores the resolve of African nations participating in the Rabat Ministerial Conference to initiate the development of a dedicated African instrument, envisioned as a Convention on preventing child soldier recruitment and ensuring their integration. In pursuit of this goal, a Group of Friends has been established. This multilateral endorsement, stemming from Morocco's initiative to combat the exploitation of children in armed conflicts, solidifies the significance and influence of the Rabat Declaration within the UN framework.
