DR ‹ › The Granada court has sentenced two Moroccan nationals to life imprisonment with the possibility of review, while two other defendants received prison terms exceeding 50 years, in connection with the brutal «Los Yesos» double homicide. The case involved the torture and killing of a farm owner and the rape and murder of his partner, a former municipal councilor from the People's Party, according to Spanish media reports. The ruling, which is subject to appeal, imposed life sentences plus an additional 44 years on the two Moroccan defendants, both 29 years old and living in Spain irregularly at the time of the crime. This marks the first time such a penalty has been applied in the Granada region since its introduction in 2015. The two other defendants, Spanish nationals aged 32 and 22, were sentenced to 59 years and three months, and 52 years and nine months, respectively, although the maximum time they can serve is capped at 40 years. The events date back to April 2022, when the four men carried out a premeditated break-in at a farmhouse with the intent to rob. They bound and tortured the victims for more than an hour, fatally slashed the man, and then raped and murdered the woman in an attempt to eliminate witnesses. The jury found all four defendants guilty of premeditated murder, unlawful detention, violent robbery in an inhabited residence, sexual assault, and illegal possession of weapons, with the aggravating circumstance of committing the crime while disguised.
