DR ‹ › Transport companies in Spain's Balearic Islands have begun recruiting drivers and mechanics from Morocco, as well as Peru and Colombia, in an effort to address a severe labor shortage ahead of the peak tourist season in Mallorca. The Federation of Transport Employers (FEBT) is working in coordination with the government delegation to launch overseas recruitment programs, with the goal of strengthening the sector's workforce starting in 2026. However, the housing crisis remains the main hurdle. Employers are required to provide suitable accommodation for incoming workers, a key condition that is slowing the pace of recruitment despite strong interest and a high number of applications, particularly from Morocco, according to Spanish media reports. The federation estimates that the Balearic Islands need around 400 additional professionals, as rising tourist numbers and population growth continue to place heavy pressure on the transport sector.
