DR ‹ › Rosa Devés, President of the University of Chile, awarded the University Presidential Medal to Morocco's Ambassador to Chile, Kenza El Ghali, who is marking ten years of diplomatic service in the country. The ceremony was held Wednesday, January 7, in the grand hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business, in recognition of her academic, cultural, and diplomatic career, as well as her pioneering role in promoting female leadership, according to local media reports. During the ceremony, Devés stressed that El Ghali «embodies a constant commitment to peace, dialogue between peoples, and human dignity», noting that her work has also contributed to advancing gender equality and fostering intercultural understanding. She further underlined that the distinction reflects «the special and profound bond linking the ambassador to Gabriela Mistral, a central figure in our cultural heritage and a global reference in poetic, educational, and ethical thought, closely connected to the history of the University of Chile». Upon her arrival in Chile, the Moroccan diplomat undertook the translation of major Chilean literary works into Arabic, including Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda and Despair by Gabriela Mistral. Introducing the honoree, Senator Francisco Chahuán praised El Ghali's efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, stating that she «has done remarkable work to deepen ties between the Chilean and Moroccan peoples», a contribution that led her government to extend her mandate, making her the longest-serving foreign diplomatic representative in Chile. For her part, El Ghali, who holds the position of Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Chile due to her seniority, said she arrived in the country «with love, ambition, and curiosity», adding that she discovered Chile largely through its literature, which inspired her to translate the works of several Chilean authors into Arabic.
