DR ‹ › The Justice and Development Party (PJD), Morocco's Islamist party, has strongly condemned reports claiming the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. military, describing the alleged operation as «an aggression against the sovereignty of the Republic of Venezuela». The statement was issued by the party's general secretariat in a recently published communiqué. The PJD denounced the operation said to have taken place on January 3, calling it «an unacceptable attack on Venezuela's symbols». The party specifically referred to what it described as the «kidnapping of the president and his wife», which it said constituted a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. While expressing solidarity with Nicolás Maduro, the PJD's general secretariat also recalled what it termed «the hostile and erroneous position of the Republic of Venezuela regarding the issue of our territorial integrity». The reports have also prompted reactions from Morocco's left-wing parties. The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Democratic Workers' Voice, the Federation of the Democratic Left, and the Unified Socialist Party all voiced their condemnation of the alleged operation. In addition, around a dozen protesters staged a sit-in last week outside the Parliament building in Rabat to denounce what they described as the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
