DR ‹ › Morocco is gearing up to unveil an updated and comprehensive version of its autonomy proposal for Western Sahara, ahead of the strategic review of MINURSO by the UN Security Council, slated for April. This development was reported by Africa Intelligence on Tuesday, January 20. This initiative aligns with Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, which urges the United Nations' executive body to instruct Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to «present, within six months of the mandate's extension, a strategic review regarding the future mandate of MINURSO, considering the outcome of the negotiations». According to the French-language media outlet, the document that Morocco plans to submit to the Security Council's Fifteen members «must notably outline the political representation of Sahrawi refugees currently residing in the Algerian camps of Tindouf». As a reminder, last November, the Royal Palace called upon Moroccan political parties to contribute their ideas to enhance the autonomy plan for the Sahara. Concurrently, Morocco has been actively consulting with its international partners, particularly France and the United States, to refine and bolster its proposal before it is reviewed by the Security Council.
