DR ‹ › The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced that three Moroccan nationals were shot dead in Ghnama, in Béchar province, during an operation carried out on Wednesday, January 28, targeting drug trafficking and smuggling networks. According to an official statement relayed by the Algerian press on Thursday, the individuals «were attempting to take advantage of adverse weather conditions to carry out their criminal activities». The ministry, which reports to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, added that a fourth Moroccan national was arrested during the operation. The crackdown led to the seizure of 74 kilograms of processed cannabis, a hunting rifle, binoculars, four mobile phones, and other items, the statement said. The Algerian Ministry of Defense also released the identities of the three Moroccans who were killed, as well as that of the individual taken into custody. This is not the first such incident involving Moroccan nationals. A previous case dates back to August 2023, when two Moroccans were killed by the Algerian navy off the coast of Saïdia.
