DR ‹ › The body of a migrant from sub-Saharan Africa was found early last Sunday near the border between Ceuta and Morocco, marking the third such death in just over two weeks under similar circumstances, according to local media. On January 25, Spain's Civil Guard recovered the body of a migrant near the border fence, while last Thursday cyclists discovered another body in the Kalamoukaro Valley. Groups of migrants, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, often take advantage of poor weather conditions to attempt to scale the border fence. After crossing, they hide in the surrounding mountainous terrain to avoid detection, waiting for an opportunity to reach the main road and make their way to the temporary migrant reception center. Prolonged exposure to harsh weather during these attempts can prove fatal, particularly due to the risk of hypothermia. In recent days, rescue services and the Red Cross have transferred several migrants to hospital suffering from injuries, severe hypothermia, and various fractures. According to the same sources, these scenes highlight the most tragic dimension of irregular migration. Ceuta's temporary migrant reception center currently houses more than 800 people, amid continued attempts to enter the enclave. Spain's Interior Ministry has reported that 426 migrants managed to enter the city within a single month, not including failed crossing attempts.
