DR ‹ › The Unified Association of the Spanish Civil Guard (AUGC) has sounded the alarm over the deteriorating condition of the border fence in Ceuta, warning that recent storms have caused serious damage to the structure. According to the association, sections of the double fence separating the city from Morocco are now in a «near-collapse» state. AUGC cautioned that the fence's current condition poses major security risks, noting that migrants can scale it in less than 30 seconds, leaving Civil Guard units with little time to intervene. The group said that anti-climb nets and inverted spikes have lost much of their deterrent effect, while some metal supports have effectively turned into «ladders», facilitating descent after crossing. The association also reported that repeated makeshift repairs have damaged the fence's sensor system, which now fails to properly detect vibrations. In addition, AUGC called for urgent repairs to the maritime barriers at Benzú and Tarajal to prevent sea crossings, stressing the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the entire border perimeter rather than temporary and ineffective fixes. The warning comes after at least 25 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa entered Ceuta last Sunday, taking advantage of adverse weather conditions and the damaged fence before reaching the city's temporary migrant reception center.
