DR ‹ › From February 10 to 12, Rabat was the stage for the second session of the Joint Military Commission between Morocco and Mali, marking a pivotal advancement in the relationship between the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and the Malian army. The Malian delegation was headed by Brigadier General Moussa Yoro Kente, who oversees military schools. The discussions primarily centered on boosting cooperation in military training, equipment, and logistical support. The Malian General Staff has embarked on an ambitious training initiative for its soldiers, leveraging the support of FAR academies. In recent months, interactions between the two armies have intensified. From May 27 to 29, 2025, a Malian military delegation visited Morocco to further collaboration in military health. As a reminder, Bamako hosted the inaugural session of the Morocco-Mali Joint Military Commission on February 17, 2025. This momentum is part of a growing diplomatic rapprochement between the two countries, underscored by Mali's withdrawal from the 2015 Algiers Agreements, announced in January 2024 by the transitional authorities. This closer relationship was further exemplified by Mali's accession on December 23, 2023, in Marrakech, to the Atlantic Africa initiative, launched on November 6, 2023, by King Mohammed VI. This project aims to facilitate Sahel countries' access to the Atlantic Ocean, underscoring the shared ambition of Rabat and Bamako to bolster their strategic partnership, both militarily and geopolitically.
