DR ‹ › A British entrepreneur's family trip to Morocco turned into a financial nightmare after eight hours of TikTok scrolling resulted in a staggering €48,000 phone bill. Andrew Alty, a small business owner from Manchester, was left stunned upon returning from holiday to discover the astronomical charge. While still abroad, he first received a bill of around €25,000 from his telecom provider. «I thought there was a technical error, or my account had been hacked», he told media. But back in the UK, a second invoice for €25,000 arrived, pushing the total to nearly €48,000. According to the operator, the charges were incurred in Morocco after his daughter spent approximately eight hours scrolling on TikTok using mobile data outside Europe. Alty had purchased the phone plan through his company, which employs five people. However, the contract's fine print prevented automatic data blocking or caps outside Europe, allowing roaming charges to accumulate without limit. «They made no effort to inform us and simply let the charges mount up», Alty said. After months of dispute and considerable stress, the telecom company ultimately agreed to waive the bill, citing the «exceptional circumstances» of the case.
