Delivery workers for the Glovo Morocco platform, represented by the Moroccan Workers' Union (UMT), began a 48-hour general strike on September 1 and 2. In Casablanca, the mobilization includes a sit-in scheduled for Monday outside the company's headquarters at Casablanca Finance City. The strike follows a wave of protests that started in July, sparked by the publication of a distorted map of Morocco and calls for improved working conditions. In a statement received by Yabiladi, the union stressed that delivery workers' demands focus primarily on raising the base rate to match the rising cost of living and declining purchasing power. They are also seeking double rates for night shifts, citing the risks involved, as well as double pay on national and religious holidays to compensate for lost family time. The delivery workers further demand full payment for canceled orders, an end to grouped orders, and the use of algorithms that comply with traffic regulations and health and safety standards. They are also calling for stronger protections of personal data and the reopening of the Bouskoura and Dar Bouazza zones. In addition, the workers want «the reactivation of accounts that have been suspended or blocked arbitrarily». According to the strikers, any such suspension «without explanation or fair investigation must be prohibited». They argue that no account should be deactivated without clear disciplinary procedures and without giving the affected worker the right to be heard.
