DR ‹ › As recently revealed at the European Parliament by Brigitte Misonne, the Deputy Director-General for Agriculture at the European Commission, a team of Commission experts has conducted a visit to Western Sahara. A source familiar with the matter, reached by Yabiladi, confirmed this visit. «In Dakhla, they carried out a comprehensive audit to evaluate the effectiveness of the sanitary systems and the control measures put in place by the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) for products intended for the markets of the EU member states.» This mission is part of the provisional agreement reached on October 3 between Morocco and the European Commission, specifically addressing the labeling of products originating from Western Sahara, with a focus on the regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. Beyond its technical scope, the visit aims to lay the groundwork for new agreements, both agricultural and fishing, between Rabat and Brussels, which include the Sahara. It primarily enables the European Commission to bolster its stance against the reservations voiced within the European Parliament. In this context, the debate held on March 18 within the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development highlights the ongoing strong opposition to these agreements.
