DR DR DR DR ‹ › Last week, the University of Zaragoza hosted a conference on Moroccan-Spanish relations, with a focus on the Western Sahara issue. The event comes in the context of the UN Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2797 on October 31, which reaffirms the primacy of Morocco's autonomy plan for the territory. Organized by the Moroccan Consulate in Aragon, the conference might have gone largely unnoticed if not for disruptions by Polisario supporters, triggered by the presence of Bahi Larbi Ennass. A former officer in the Front's army, now aligned with Morocco and president of the Laâyoune Center for Studies and Research, his participation sparked hostility among some activists in Zaragoza, considered a stronghold of the Brahim Ghali movement in Spain. «Even before I could speak, some students began shouting and calling for the conference to be canceled. One of them waved a Front flag to express his anger», Bahi Larbi told Yabiladi. «Academics tried in vain to calm them. The dean offered the group a chance to express their views at the end of the two scheduled speeches, but they refused. They kept shouting and demanding the suspension of the conference.» The protesters sought to prevent a former Polisario member from challenging the narrative promoted by the Brahim Ghali movement in Spain. Faced with the disruption, the university's dean asked the individuals to leave the room. «After their departure, the conference continued without incident. The discussion proved insightful, particularly with the participation of academics, judges, and the deputy government delegate in Zaragoza», Bahi Larbi Ennass added.
