The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), a parliamentary opposition party, is set to hold its 12th Congress on October 17, 18, and 19, 2025, in Bouznika. The decision was ratified on Saturday, May 17, during an ordinary session of the party's national council. The upcoming congress is widely expected to reaffirm Driss Lachgar's dominance over the Rose Party. In office since 2012, the current First Secretary is almost certain to secure another four-year term, as no credible challenger appears poised to contest his leadership. The national council has appointed Youssef Aidi as chair of the preparatory committee for the 12th Congress. A parliamentary advisor and head of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT)—the USFP's trade union wing—Aidi is a close ally of Lachgar. In October 2024, Aidi was elected president of the socialist group in the Chamber of Advisors with Lachgar's backing, despite opposition within the group. Several members of the Rose Party even publicly contested his appointment during a session dedicated to electing members of the upper house's bureau.
