Three Moroccan students were expelled from Belarus following an April street fight that «caused a public outcry, was surrounded by rumors, and could incite ethnic hatred», the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus has announced. According to local media on Monday, the students were detained, charged with disturbing public order, and placed in a temporary detention facility before their expulsions were publicly carried out at their universities and local police stations. A video of the fight, which took place in Gomel — a city in southeastern Belarus — circulated online and initially sparked speculation that the participants were Pakistani. These speculations fueled public anxiety among those opposing Belarus's recent plan to bring in 150,000 labor migrants from Pakistan before it was revealed that the men behind the fight were Moroccan.
