The Grand Stadium of Tangier, currently undergoing renovation ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) and the 2030 World Cup, will be ready by the end of September, assured Anouar Amraoui, the architect overseeing the project. «All interior spaces have been redone to meet FIFA standards ahead of the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal», Amraoui said in a statement to MAP, noting that the renovation cost amounts to 360 million USD. «The framework of the Grand Stadium of Tangier is the second largest of its kind in the world after that of the Maracana in Brazil. It is a mixed structure, half metal, half cable», he explained, adding that the work is being carried out by Moroccan companies with German technical assistance. Omar Khyari, advisor to the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), emphasized that the revamped Grand Stadium of Tangier will be a major asset to Morocco's sports infrastructure. «In its new setting, it will undoubtedly add value, especially since it will be one of the largest stadiums in the country», he said. He also highlighted the importance of linking the stadium to ancillary infrastructure as «one of the jewels of continental and global football». «This will allow Morocco to position itself as a hub for continental and international football, thanks to the work of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation», he further stated. The renovated venue will now seat 75,000 spectators and has been redesigned as a football-only stadium. The athletics track has been completely removed, bringing the stands closer to the pitch and creating a more intense atmosphere. The field dimensions remain 105 × 68 meters, with a natural grass surface that meets FIFA standards. A monumental new roof is also being installed, ensuring full coverage for spectators and making the stadium one of the most advanced in Africa. The project combines aesthetics and functionality to meet the highest requirements of international competitions.
