A fire broke out Sunday evening at the control tower of Zagora Airport but was quickly brought under control with no casualties, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA), which confirmed that the incident had no impact on airport operations. In a statement, ONDA said that «the fire started at 8:12 p.m. on Sunday in the control tower of Zagora Airport». Thanks to the «rapid and coordinated intervention of the airport teams, ONDA staff, and civil protection units, the fire was contained by 9:30 p.m. without any casualties». The statement noted that safety systems were activated immediately, which allowed the fire to be contained and extinguished in a very short time. ONDA stressed that operations were unaffected, as organizational and technical measures were swiftly put in place to secure activities and ensure the safety of passengers and airport users. ONDA praised the «exceptional work of the teams on site, which allowed operations to return to normal quickly and ensured continuity of airport activity under the best possible conditions». An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire. Located 7 kilometers from the city, in the heart of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, Zagora Airport is equipped with a modern terminal inaugurated in 2019. It mainly handles domestic flights operated by Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia Maroc, connecting Zagora with Casablanca, Ouarzazate, and Marrakech.
