The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, held talks on Monday in Nouakchott with Mauritania's Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mohamed Ould Khaled, focused on accelerating cooperation between the two countries in electricity and renewable energies. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the «Mauritanides» Energy and Mining Conference and Exhibition, in the presence of Morocco's Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, the Director General of Energy and Mining Production Development at the Ministry of Energy Transition, Ahmed Bouzid, and senior officials from Mauritania's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. The meeting was an opportunity to highlight the qualitative leap in cooperation between the two ministries, as well as between public and private stakeholders in both countries, with the aim of enhancing energy security and making optimal use of shared resources. Both sides praised the practical steps already being implemented in the energy sector at the bilateral level, reflecting a shared vision centered on achieving sustainable development that serves the interests of both peoples and Africa as a whole, in line with the aspirations of King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. Speaking to MAP after the meeting, Minister Benali stressed that these talks are part of efforts to strengthen Morocco-Mauritania relations in electricity interconnection and partnerships in various mining sectors. She underlined that the two countries share the same vision for developing and diversifying the energy sector, localizing industries, and reinforcing their electrical interconnection. Minister Benali is leading a large delegation to the 7th edition of the «Mauritanides» Mining and Energy Conference, which opened Monday in Nouakchott under the chairmanship of President Ghazouani. According to the organizers, the conference aims to create a regional and international platform bringing together stakeholders in mining, oil, and gas, alongside representatives of renewable energies and green hydrogen, to explore ways to develop these sectors and boost their contribution to national and regional economies. It also seeks to provide investors with opportunities to explore projects under development, build partnerships in mining and clean energy, and promote Mauritania's investment climate, its mineral potential, and its energy strategy.
