Mauritania's Minister Delegate for the Interior, in charge of Decentralization and the Promotion of Local Development, Yacoub Salem Vall, is on a four-day official visit to Morocco. On Monday, he was received in Rabat by Morocco's Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit. During their meeting, the two officials discussed Morocco's experience with advanced regionalization and decentralization, and explored ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in this key area, according to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior. Laftit and Vall expressed their shared commitment to fostering dynamic partnerships between local communities in both countries. They plan to exchange experiences and best practices in areas such as solid waste management, local public services, urban development, territorial planning, and digital transformation. Yacoub Salem Vall is accompanied by a delegation that includes the Director General of Decentralization and Local Development, the President of the Association of Mayors of Mauritania, the Second Vice President of the Association of Regions of Mauritania, and the President of the Parliamentary Group for Decentralization. The visit takes place against the backdrop of strong relations between Morocco and Mauritania. On March 26 in Rabat, Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug highlighted the strength of these ties following his meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Since December 20, officials from both governments have held several meetings. Rabat and Nouakchott are planning strategic joint projects in sectors such as energy, road and port infrastructure, and water desalination.
