On Tuesday in Rabat, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch reaffirmed the government's commitment to fully implementing the national solidarity project on the universalization of social protection. Chairing a meeting of the Ministerial Commission tasked with overseeing the reform of the social protection system, Akhannouch stressed that the government is determined to carry out this project «within a clear and integrated vision, and in full compliance with the timetable set by King Mohammed VI», according to a statement from his office. The meeting reviewed the progress of programs included in the social protection plan, the registration process for the national population register and the unified social register, enrollment in the AMO-Tadamon scheme, and the rollout of benefits for eligible families through the direct social assistance program. The Commission noted that registration in the national population register has reached 22.5 million people, while 5.3 million families are now listed in the unified social register. It also reported a significant increase in the number of people covered by medical insurance schemes (AMO-Tadamon, AMO for employees, AMO for self-employed workers, and AMO-Achamil), rising from 8.6 million in 2021 to 24.3 million by the end of 2024 under the National Social Security Fund (CNSS). In particular, the AMO-Tadamon scheme has benefited about 4 million families, or roughly 11 million people. Regarding the direct social assistance program, around 4 million families have benefited as of the end of August 2025, including 5.5 million children and more than 1.3 million elderly people over 60. Since its launch in December 2023, the program has distributed 40.5 billion dirhams in direct aid, with 60% of beneficiary families living in rural areas.
