On Saturday, September 27, security forces intervened in several cities to disperse protest gatherings and arrested a number of demonstrators who had responded to calls on social media under what has been dubbed the «Generation Z protests». In Rabat, a heavy security presence surrounded Parliament Square, where authorities broke up the gatherings and detained several participants, including lawyer and Democratic Left Federation municipal councilor Farouk Mahdawi, as well as leftist activist Abdel Hamid Amin. Similar operations took place in other cities, including Casablanca, where authorities prevented protests in the Arab League Park, as well as in Tangier, Tetouan, and other locations. The demonstrations had been called on social media for September 27 and 28, with demands focused on improving healthcare services, enhancing the quality of public education, and addressing the rising unemployment rate.
