This Sunday in New York, Algeria's Foreign Minister held talks with his «counterpart» from the Polisario Front. The discussions between Ahmed Attaf and Mohamed Yeslem Beissat centered on «the evolving situation in Western Sahara, in light of upcoming UN events at both the General Assembly and the Security Council», according to a statement from Algerian diplomatic sources. The meeting offered a platform to revisit the stances voiced during the General Assembly's debate, «reaffirming the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination, in line with international law principles and pertinent UN resolutions», the statement added. In an unusual move, the Polisario's press agency did not release a specific report on this meeting with Algeria's top diplomat. Surprisingly, the SPS only acknowledged the encounter through a photograph of Attaf and Beissat, similar to Beissat's meetings with the foreign ministers of Venezuela and Zimbabwe. On Friday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune steered clear of mentioning his country's backing of the Polisario during an interview with local media. The previous meeting between Attaf and Beissat occurred on August 27 in Algiers.
