On Wednesday, August 27, in Algiers, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf received Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, presented as the Polisario's «foreign minister». Their talks focused on recent diplomatic developments regarding Western Sahara, particularly in light of the latest report by the UN Secretary-General. According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also relayed by the Polisario news agency, the two officials reaffirmed their «support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, in line with international resolutions». In his report to the UN General Assembly, Antonio Guterres urged «all concerned to work towards changing course without delay, with the facilitation of the United Nations and the support of the broader international community, towards a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution». It is worth recalling that Attaf and Beissat had already met on July 27 in Algiers, just two weeks after former South African president Jacob Zuma publicly backed Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara.
