The Spanish airline Vueling inaugurated a new route on Saturday, linking Seville to Essaouira-Mogador International Airport. This development marks a significant step in enhancing the air connectivity of the City of Trade Winds. The weekly service, now available every Saturday, strengthens Essaouira's position on the European tourist map and increases its appeal to the Andalusian market. A welcoming ceremony took place at the airport, attended by local officials, tourism sector stakeholders, and Vueling representatives. This event symbolized the successful collaboration between public institutions and private operators. «This route offers a significant opportunity for the Andalusian market, which has historic ties to our region. It will help diversify the tourist clientele and boost Essaouira's visibility by 2026», said Redouane Khane, President of the Provincial Tourism Council. The first passengers on this new route expressed their satisfaction, highlighting the time and comfort saved when traveling across the Mediterranean. This launch coincides with a notable increase in air traffic at Essaouira-Mogador. In September 2025, the airport experienced a 48.6% rise in passenger numbers, welcoming 29,410 travelers compared to 19,789 the previous year. Aircraft movements also saw a 53.5% increase, climbing from 142 to 218 flights. With this new route, Essaouira airport now offers flights to around ten international destinations, including Paris, London, Brussels, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Düsseldorf, Madrid, and now Seville — in addition to the domestic route to Rabat. This expansion is part of the city's broader strategy to enhance accessibility. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Essaouira's cultural and tourist influence continues to grow on the global stage.
