The Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Souss-Massa region has denied reports circulating on social media claiming that there were no gynecology and obstetrics specialists at Hassan II Hospital in Agadir, following the death of a pregnant woman on Tuesday who had been transferred from Mokhtar Soussi Hospital in Biougra. In a statement, the Directorate clarified that «the patient was admitted to the maternity ward in Biougra, where she was immediately attended to by a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, assisted by a nursing team». After examination, doctors decided to perform a cesarean section to safeguard the health of both mother and child. «The procedure was carried out successfully under the supervision of the medical team», the Directorate said. However, the patient later suffered severe hemorrhaging, prompting her urgent transfer to the intensive care unit at Hassan II Hospital in Agadir. Despite all medical efforts, her condition continued to deteriorate, resulting in her death. The newborn, the same source confirmed, is in good health. The Directorate extended its condolences to the deceased's family and announced that a medical and administrative commission has been established to conduct a thorough internal investigation into the circumstances of the incident, determine responsibilities, and take appropriate measures in accordance with the law. It concluded by reiterating that «claims about the absence of gynecology-obstetrics specialists are unfounded», emphasizing that the hospital department in question is fully staffed and equipped to care for patients.
