A delegation from the UK Foreign Office recently carried out a two-day visit to the Tindouf camps. The program included «meetings with Sahrawi officials, women's and youth groups, human rights organizations, as well as visits to certain social and economic facilities», the Polisario news agency reported on Wednesday. Notably, the British diplomats did not meet with Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, the Polisario's «Minister of Foreign Affairs». The visit comes four weeks after Beissat traveled to London, where he was received by Hamish Falconer, the UK's Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is worth recalling that on June 1, in Rabat, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced his country's support for Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a stance that King Mohammed VI praised during his Throne Day speech on July 29. The United Nations Security Council is scheduled to review the Western Sahara dossier in October.
