Senegal lauded, on Monday in Rabat, the initiatives of King Mohammed VI and his steadfast commitment to advancing the African continent. In a joint statement released after talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, both parties extolled the insightful vision and dedication of the monarch and Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. They praised their efforts towards peace, stability, and development, as well as the promotion of a moderate, open, and tolerant Islam. During their discussions on the Atlantic African States initiative and the potential for synergy and cooperation among the involved states, Bourita and Niang underscored the importance of coordination and consultation. Their goal is to transform the Atlantic African region into a zone of co-emergence, stability, and shared development, focusing on strategic areas such as the environment, food security, health, energy, logistical interconnection, resource pooling, and the exchange of experiences. The two leaders also applauded the progress made on the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline, which links Nigeria and Morocco, a symbol of South-South cooperation. They highlighted Senegal's pivotal role in the project's first phase, particularly in the section connecting it to Mauritania. Addressing regional and international issues of common interest, both sides praised the alignment of views between Rabat and Dakar on major issues impacting the continent's peace, security, and stability. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts for the peaceful resolution of disputes in Africa, with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
