Senegal welcomed the adoption on October 31, 2025, by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797, which reaffirms the primacy of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco within the framework of its sovereignty. This stance was expressed in a joint statement released Monday in Rabat, following discussions between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Senegalese counterpart, Cheikh Niang. Nasser Bourita expressed his gratitude to Senegal for its unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region. This support reflects a deep understanding of the origins and stakes of this issue, as well as its implications for regional stability and integration, the joint statement emphasized. He also praised the opening by Senegal, on April 5, 2021, of a consulate general in the city of Dakhla.
